Biography

Kathleen A. Evans, an av rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B. A. in Political Science from Washington State University in 1979 and Summa Cum Laude from Willamette University College of Law in 1982; she has practiced law in Salem since that time. Kathy is admitted to practice law in the State of Oregon, the U. S. District Court of Oregon, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Although she has practiced in the area of creditor's rights and commercial law, and while she has served as a mediator and continues to act as an arbitrator, most of her time is spent advising clients in the areas of estate and business planning, working with small businesses and clients whose estates range from the modest to the substantial.
Local
and state bar activities and community service are important to Kathy.
She is a frequent speaker at seminars for both the public and for
professionals on a variety of legal topics. She is a contributing author
of the Oregon Commercial Practice Manual, published by the
Debtor/Creditor Section of the Oregon State Bar. She was a co-founder
and the 1994-95 President of the Willamette Valley American Inns of
Court. She served as the 1992 President of the Marion County Bar
Association, following three years' service on that Board of Directors.
Kathy chaired the Executive Committee of the Debtor/Creditor Section of
the Oregon State Bar, after having served on that Committee from 1986 to
1995. She has also served as a member of the Executive Committee of the
Business Section of the Oregon State Bar. Her service includes tenure as
member and past chairperson of the Oregon State Bar Continuing Legal
Education Committee. She currently serves on the Oregon State Bar Board
of Governors and has been elected as president for 2010.
Kathy is a member (and former Board member) of the Willamette Valley
Estate Planning Council and is a member of the Estate Planning and
Administration Section of the Oregon State Bar, as well as a member of
WealthCounsel.
Community service includes years as a member and Treasurer of the Board
of Directors of the Salem YWCA and its Board of Trustees, as well as
years as a member, Secretary, and Chair of the Board of Trustees for the
Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion & Polk Counties Foundation. She is
married to Michael Batlan; they have two grown daughters.
